Winston-Salem State stomps Claflin, 67-32 to advance to CIAA Championship game

Baltimore, M.D.-  The Winston-Salem State University women’s basketball team defeats Claflin University 67-32, inside the CFG Bank Arena

The Rams improved to 25-3 (14-2 CIAA, 8-2 South) on the season.

Nevaeh Farmer led the Rams with 19 points, followed by Maia Charles with a double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds.  

Quick Inside the Numbers
The Rams went 26-of-66 from the field, 4-for-25 from three, and 11-of-15 from the free-throw line, grabbed 44rebounds, forced 26 turnovers, scored 38 points in the paint, and had 11 steals.  

How It Happened
In the first quarter, the Rams took a 6-0 lead on a Ah’Kiyah Pye lay-up (7:24). WSSU extended its lead to 12-0 on two Maia Charles free throws (5:01). The Rams took a 20-5 lead into the second quarter. 

In the second quarter, the Rams took a 25-5 lead on an Alana Biosse lay-up (9:24). WSSU outscored the Panthers 17-4, taking a 37-9 lead into halftime.  

In the third quarter, Claflin went on a 6-2 run, cutting the lead to 39-15 on a three-pointer (6:54). The Rams closed out the quarter on a 10-3 run, taking a 49-18 lead into the fourth quarter. 

In the fourth quarter, the Rams extended their lead to 56-26 on a Maia Charles lay-up (4:44). Claflin couldn’t cut the deficit down under 30 points.

The Lady Rams will face off with #2S Fayetteville State or #1N Bowie State in the CIAA Championship on February 28. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 inside the CFG Bank Arena.
